Following in the footsteps of our previous interns, Karen Seff has joined BioCote® as a Microbiology Intern to observe and support our seasoned microbiologists in their day-to-day work. Prior to embarking on her placement year, Karen had finished her second year of Biomedical Science studies at Coventry University. Karen’s position at BioCote® has already expanded to include content writing and collaboration with the Marketing Team in the creation of scientific content pieces, and we can’t wait to see what else she’ll bring to the table!
Karen has told us more about the reasons why she chose BioCote® for her placement and what she likes to do outside work – thanks Karen!
“At university I enjoyed Microbiology and wanted to gain more experience in it. BioCote® provides a learning environment to understand Microbiology with an introduction to the business side of science. It also provides a great opportunity for independent research and work on scientific writing with full support from the team, which I really enjoy.
Ever since I can remember, I’ve loved reading – currently I have my head buried in Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I also love taking long walks and naps by the beach back home in Tanzania or going for amazing boat rides to Zanzibar, Mbudya and Bongoyo Islands by the coast. You can also find me watching (mostly) comedy movies and TV shows – I love to laugh!
Being so far away from home most of the time has made me appreciate my family and friends so much more, and I always take every moment or every shared meal as something not for granted.”
