Laboratory Case Study

ISO22196 proves BioCote® technology effectiveness on BioCote® protected polymers

We pride ourselves on the effectiveness of our antimicrobial solutions because they work not only in the laboratory, but in real-life, too.

By definition microbes are small and cannot be seen with the naked eye. That is why BioCote® employed a number of scientific techniques to address this challenge and clearly illustrate the effect BioCote® treated surfaces have on the bacteria colonising a protected surface.

Using the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus, treated and untreated polymer samples were inoculated with known quantities of test organisms and incubated at 37°C for 24 hours. Bacteria were then coloured with molecular dyes which stained the bacteria (red if dead and green if alive). Images were obtained via microscopy.

Significant differences between the BioCote® treated and control material were observed, with living bacteria visualised in green and the dead bacteria shown in red.
