Canadian Treated Articles Update


This white paper provides an update on the Canadian legislation concerning treated articles and medical devices. Specifically outlining the regulations in the Pest Control Products Act (PCPA) and recent amendments to the Pest Control Products Regulations (PCPR). It will identify the definitions of pest control products, treated articles, and pesticides as per the PCPA and highlight the regulatory requirements for incorporating pesticides into articles and the exemption criteria for antimicrobial preservatives used intreated articles.

Furthermore, this paper will present the recent amendments that introduce an exemption for Class II , III, and IV medical devices treated with antimicrobial preservatives, although BioCote® cannot treat a product at increased risk levels above Class II. It concludes by discussing the permissible treatment of different classes of medical devices and the impact of the exemption on risk levels.
