Benefits of Products which Contain BioCote® Additives

BioCote® antimicrobial additives work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to reduce the levels of microbes by up to 99.99%, reassuring end-users that their product is permanently protected and therefore less likely to harbour damaging microorganisms. The technology’s ability to minimise microbial colonisation also reduces the potential for staining and unpleasant odours, meaning a protected product will stay fresher for longer and have an increased functional life cycle – offering a significant cost benefit to the consumer. BioCote® silver ion additives will not wear off or leach from the surface they are manufactured into, making them safe for use in a variety of products such as baby toys, kitchen appliances and bathroom accessories.

Silver Ion Additives

Silver form 1 & 2 – These composite silver compounds imbue products with excellent antimicrobial efficacy against a broad range of microbes. Thanks to the high efficacy and robust physical properties, this form is suitable for deployment in a broad range of materials and applications, including paints, coatings, textiles, polymers and other material types.

Our active substance is permitted for use in biocidal applications with the approved product types (PT) according to the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). No classification change to BioCote® silver ion technology, currently under Union review, has been made. BioCote® silver ion technology is viewed as low risk, and therefore, the Union review is likely to be an extended process whilst high-risk substances are prioritised and evaluated. The reclassification changes are expected to be confirmed 2025-2026.

Zeolites

Zeolites are porous ceramic based materials, containing a variety of antimicrobial ions such as Zinc. These materials are good for short term use (5-10 years), which is useful for disposable/limited use products. Zeolites can be easily incorporated during the manufacturing process, and do not leach out of the product. Its anti-odour properties give zeolites another plus.

Antifungal

Used in paints and wood treatment, Iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, commonly known as IPBC, is an organic additive that can protect from fungal attack. This should help stop wood such as fences and decking from rotting and keeps your paint looking fresh.

Quaternary Ammonium compounds (QAC or QUAT)

These antimicrobials are extremely diverse in terms of use and structure. BioCote®’s quaternary ammonium compound products are ideal for uses such as disinfectant formulation and antimicrobial surface treatments.
